Devotional - God Our refuge & strength

These are times that are not the most comfortable for us - whether it be for the christian or for the others. Times when the world around us is almost constantly in a turmoil of sorts; Times when there is no stability and predictability to any entity on earth; Times when news of failures, sadness and neglect hit you from all over; And frankly, times when we as christians need to feel closer to God than ever before.

These signs are biblical. And the way the recent crises have affected us may have been severe. Many of us have lost our jobs, many have been inconvenienced, many are in a state of churn, and almost all of us are hoping for more peace in our lives.

A beautiful set of thoughts from Psalm 46 - A soothing balm for a sore heart

Psa 46:1> God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Psa 46:2 > Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
Psa 46:6  The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.
Psa 46:7  The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge
Psa 46:10  Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

A very present help in trouble - Oh, I love the emphasis that this phrase brings to my mind. When His children are in trouble, this phrase makes the presence of the Lord a very tangible one. Irrespective of the upheavels happening around us, the Lord exhorts us to keep the faith. He reminds us that He is with us (on our side, benevolent towards us).

The statement that tests the faith - Be still. In the mist of strife and turmoil, only a Christian can be still - To be in a calm, trusting, relaxed mind (and know that I am God)since we know that our Lord defends us in impending danger.

Keep the cheer and faith my friends. While we wait for the celebration of another reminder of our savior's birth, let us remind ourselves of the ways in which He has taken care of us; Let us remind each other of the various gifts in our life; And let us spend time in prayer, in the joy that He cares for us!

We're near Thanksgiving. I would like to dedicate the next few thoughts (posts) to the theme of thanksgiving. A thought of gratitude amongst the various celebrations.

God bless you!
